Just six months after stepping onto the Fairlight stage for the
first time, Esther De Vries takes on the role of producer ... and
she gets her "old man" Doug roped in to help in the design and build
of the set.
A somewhat unusual title, "Lloyd George Knew My Father" was
originally performed under the title of "Lady Boothroyd of the
By-Pass", which possibly gives more of a clue as to the plot.
When Lady Sheila Boothroyd hears that the planning authorities
are determined to keep to their decision to drive a road through her
graounds she announces her intention to kill herself the precise
moment the bulldozers start on their shameful work. At first
disbelieving, the family at length realize to their horror that this
is no joke. All means of persuasion fail. As the hour strikes and
the bulldozers' roar is heard the old General enters in full
regimental regalia, while his old ex-army servant sounds the "Last
Post". Then the whole family stands stricken, the door opens ...
William Douglas Home (1912-92) was the son of the 13th
Earl of Home, brother of Sir Alec Douglas Home.
